I’m a midlevel Big Law associate applying for in-house positions that ask for experience drafting and negotiating agreements. I have negotiated a few agreements, but I am light in the area, though I have the substantive knowledge and I’m comfortable marking up agreements. If asked about my negotiation experience in an interview, I plan to talk about the agreements I have negotiated and some of the issues that came up. Interviewing for L&E in house position for lateral move. Posting also says I would be advising on IP and M&A. I have experience in the 10 other or so areas they want that are all employment related. I don’t know if they’re holding out for a unicorn candidate, or I am missing something. I don’t know any L&E attys who have IP or M&A experience. Is there an employment law component to these practice areas? And do I just say I have zero experience? The position is a solid fit for me otherwise.
