Hello!l everyone! I recently accepted a new role with a smallish startup that has great healthcare benefits (100%!) but I haven’t been sent any info on parental leave benefits. I didn’t think to ask in the interview because I was so focused on getting the job. I am not pregnant now, but I married this year and I’m approaching 35 so I’d like to start taking it seriously. I’m almost 37 weeks pregnant, due 12/29, and just found out that my company is increasing its paid parental leave policy effective January 1, 2023. Obviously there’s the possibility that baby will be born late and I’ll be eligible but the fact that I could either get it or not get it based on one day is really breaking my heart and giving me anxiety. We live in the northeast and want to take a trip somewhere warm for a week in Jan. Any suggestions? Florida seems like the obvious choice. I’m 11 weeks. Started interviewing before I knew I was pregnant and expecting to hear today about an offer (or not). The company I work for in the construction industry is revising its parental leave policy. I’m aware of lawsuits related to equal bonding time. I’m hearing a lot about people who don’t have kids finding that they are being treated unfairly and I really feel for that. But as someone with kids, I feel like I get it from the other side of the spectrum, where people forget I have them and expect me to turn things ASAP in the evening. A company has 2 candidates, aged 25-30, equal in every respect save one’s a man the other’s a woman. Maybe the woman is a slightly better candidate overall. They’d have equal comp.

Company considers the woman a riskier bet due to possibility she’ll take maternity leave — and considers the man less risky for his ineligibility to take as much leave. 🤷

UK Corporate lawyer here. In my appraisal I was told I am not performing to 3PQE.
I joined from a client, following in-house training. I then moved at the beginning of the pandemic and my offer was pushed 6 months (where I wasn’t working). I then joined on the condition that I did real estate for 6 months.
I have also spent 4 months on parental leave, so I have only spent 16 months in the team. I am paid the same as an NQ. This all feels very unfair. Please share any advice you may have.
