I personally feel that I am more of a slower worker than my other peers at WIPFLI. I take my time when I work through my assignments. Recently I have had a conversation from a Partner and separate conversation with a Sr. Manager who is my performance coach. They both say it takes what it takes to complete a job. But both are asking questions about my over budget. What do I do? I’m scared that I will get fired, honestly. I just try to do my best. I’m thinking of having a chat with them.

Has anyone here everyone stood up for themselves or someone else on a internal call with their director/partner? Like if they were bullying someone? Curious to see what happened after or if that is something that can get you fired. Our director is a bully to others and if they ever come at me I’m going to stand up for myself but wondering if breaking the professional boundary is worth it.

Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?

Think often about how at my last full time job the CCOs tried really hard to gaslight me into thinking my partner needed to be fired for taking all of his allotted PTO for the year.

To my Deloitte colleagues: I just returned from maternity leave, and while I’m very grateful I was able to stay home with baby for 6 months I’m really anxious about returning and my utilization (50% now). Our RM is really slow and says we have a lot of new projects but hasn’t assigned me to one. I am doing trainings but not billing, and I don’t believe I’ll be staffed next week or the next either. Have reached out to a partner for extra work but haven’t heard back. Afraid I’ll get fired.

I have not been performing well in my role. I have some terrible reviews, but I have not been placed on a PIP yet. However, a partner put a private meeting on my calendar for Friday afternoon. I’m freaking out bc I feel like I’m going to be fired. I have been at the firm for less than a year. Has anyone heard of or has been in a similar situation? If so, what was the outcome?

Would you choose an investment job at a private, partner-owned long only fund where you’re guaranteed to never lose your job& can be a multimillionaire; or at a very top L/S HF where the bottom performers are fired each year, but you could make multimillions in a good year?

Another related q, would you forego the offer at the first place to potentially get the offer at the second place, knowing it’s very competitive? Assume you’re target background, at another top fund, good work ethics

Any tips for negotiating your severance for a non-partner role? Many good years at the firm—it’s just not working out of late and both me and my firm are looking to part ways.

Has your firm ever fired a partner for being verbally or physically abusive?

Had the partner in charge of the tax group I was previously in at a B4 firm email me encouraging me to apply for an opening with them (basically same role I was in before, but at a SM level).

The catch is, I was part of their COVID RIF layoffs in summer 2020, and don’t think I’ll forget that anytime soon. Do I just respond that I’m not interested, or do I politely make it clear I have zero interest in ever returning to the firm?

Horrible anxiety about considering a new job....
I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?

An agency I contacted a year ago, after I was laid off in the pandemic, finally gets in touch with a team opening on a very tough account. If I waited around that long for them I’d have defaulted on my mortgage, lost my work visa and been kicked out of the country by now. I’ve been freelancing on way more interesting stuff but decide to do the interview and find out more. The first question the CCO asks me and my partner, “So why do you want this job?” 🙄

Got laid off and I am struggling to find a job + when I melt down thinking I won’t find anything any time soon even though I love the ad industry, my partner suggest to switch fields. Anyone going through the same?

My department went through a reorganization; my unit was dissolved but I was offered a role in a new unit that I used to work with as a partner. Their work had always seemed interesting and I was happy to join. Unfortunately it seems they just needed some one to figure out how to manage grunt work being done by the people they fired. While they promised me growth and learning, it’s hard to find time and opportunity given hefty time commitment and tediousness of the job. Is this common in reorgs?

What’s the typical severance package for a B4 equity partner? Asking for a friend. 😁

My partner is still out of work from being laid off due to COVID and made it to a final round interview that he thought went well , and got a denial email this morning. I was so excited to finally not feel so much financial pressure as his unemployment is stalled, but I just feel terrible, like this will never end and start to impact our relationship because he can’t pull his weight with the bills. Plus, I have a presentation today and just feel so distracted — an awful awful morning.

I started my career at PWC audit in 2019 and got laid off last year due to covid. I got an offer and started working at a 2 tier (BDO, RSM, GT... level) accounting firm for 1 month. Now PWC partner extended me an offer to go back. Any thoughts?

My partner (along with his team) has been laid off from an equity research role. He is on H1b visa and has until end of February to find a new job otherwise he’ll have to leave the country. My partner is an accomplished writer and author with 10+ years in digital media as an editor (lifestyle, food, travel), but they are looking to get into something less volatile after layoffs. Any ideas how to make the pivot into content or marketing? How to position for exit ops when kind of senior but in a new role? I’m a life science consultant so coming up short on ideas.

What is your backup plan incase you and your partner (if you have one) get laid off? Specifically curious about how you would handle housing and income.

I keep an eye on an untalented psychopathic ex creative partner of mine. They were super good at talking the talk, so they’ve been getting jobs way above their ability. So far 5 for 5 fired within six months. Just saw they picked up a new role. 🍿 🍿

So, a spot I made (concept to completion) got shelved due to COVID forcing the client’s marketing plan to change. During that time, my partner and I were laid off. Recently, the spot aired, but the agency credits a different team for the work – me, my parter, and my CDs aren’t listed. Do I ask the agency to correct it? Just throw it in my book with explanation? Just take the L and chalk it up to that being how the industry is?

I screwed up something so badly on my first case - essentially leading to my CTL sending the client “draft” slides with wrong info on a bunch of things (though now they’re correct) - and, while my CTL seems okay with it and my manager understanding, I’m legitimately worried it’ll make it’s way to a Partner and thy’ll get me fired after just my first month. Am I overreacting?

Hi all - my partner was laid off in April and still having a difficult time finding work in the DC area. Thanks to your advice earlier in the year, he’s back in school to finish his bachelors in IS Management + taking the NET+ cert exam soon. Will it be hard for him to find a job until he gets his degree or will the cert help with an entry level job to tie him over? For reference he’s had 1 full-time role with a tech company in acct mgt. and (2) IT support internships. Thanks in advance!

How bad are the staff layoffs at KPMG and Accenture? And the PWC partner layoffs?

Laid off and have been searching for months. Got an offer from lawyer I’d done contract work and then also recently got offer from consulting firm doing legal adjacent work but not really lawyering. Solo offer is considerably lower than prior role and consulting role but has diff pros (no billable, % profit if business brought which may be challenging in current market). Not really sold on the idea of becoming a partner ever or going back into a large firm role but ..see cont

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

Removed my partner from LinkedIn coz I was open to work .... in next 2 weeks , I was fired .... lol ... thanks ... who wanna work for a toxic partner , dining things which I care , hope things be back to normalcy .

My partner was fired 2 years ago and while he’s back on his feet I am still very alert and scared such thing might happen again. It was an extremely difficult period for me and I feel like I need to put a lot of energy into rebuilding his confidence. How to be more at ease?

Have a partner who redlines to death just to feel important, nothing necessary or substantive. As a little experiment, I took an old motion he already drafted on his own and changed nothing but the heading and gave it to him for review. He tore it to SHREDS. I’d definitely get fired, but you have no idea how much I want to tell him it was his own work to call out the hypocrisy.

My SO got a great job offer in Bangkok and we need to decide soon.
I’ve always been very independent and never followed a partner to another city or country. Will it be bad for my career to join him even while there is a little change I can find a job in Bangkok? Not sure what to do right now. Due to covid I recently got laid off and am already not in my home country but have lived here over 7 years. Any advice? Day One of being in the freelance game after being laid off thanks to COVID. Terrified and Depressed in equal measures but I do believe there is opportunity out there to partner with the right people (creative lead, business lead) to roll up some smaller sized clients into something approaching a business.

Any advice for lateraling as first-year business lit associate? I’m not getting any work at my current firm due to partner hoarding and overstaffing. Can I lateral this early or should I wait until I’m inevitably fired for low hours? If I should lateral now, what reasons for leaving should I give interviewers? Should I tell the truth or will it look bad on me?

I was laid off in June and just got a job offer that I am excited about. However, my partner and I are also in discussions about moving. The job would be remote for at least another 5+ months so it wouldn’t be an issue now, but eventually people will be back in the office in some hybrid plan.

Is it better to float the possibility of working remote long term with HR now? Or do I accept and say nothing til we’ve officially decided to move. I don’t want to lose the opportunity. What would u do?

How are y’all feeling about the no bonus no raise situation? KPMG here, not too bothered but also can’t help but compare my org with other big 4, that managed their financials way better and can afford bonuses and pay rises and no layoffs for their employees (of course partner pay is getting impacted I’m sure to save the workforce). I wonder where we went wrong, and if the lake house investment (which we will not be using for two years, was a good investment)...
