Who really makes that high of a base salary? Who are they trying to attract?

Even principal engineers in US make $200k to $220k annual base and rest in equity.

Went through several rounds for a managerial position at a company and had one more round before a presumed offer.

Just got an email from the recruiter stating that the position was filled internally, but they want me to take another position on the same team as a Principal, but because of "internal team equity", the original salary range would now be lower (without saying exactly by how much).

I am evaluating a couple of offers: Accenture Strategy (lateral move with 1-1.5 yrs to Senior Manager/Principal) and BCG (who want me to come in as a Consultant, did not agree to PL :/). BCG base comp is 15% below Accenture. Totally confused. P.S. I'm 34 (so no spring chicken).

Evaluating 2 offers: 1. Accenture consulting SM at 190K base plus 20K annual RSU and 2. Salesforce Senior Principal CSG at 155 Base, 15K RSU and 35% on target bonus.

Have an offer from Salesforce Mulesoft CSG for a senior principal - Base 152 and up to 35% bonus, 60K RSU. Is senior principal level 7 there ? Is the compensation appropriate for the level ?
