Former PWC (2 years) current EY Consultant (1 year this week), the work life balance feels really, really culturally ingrained at EY, which is a pleasant surprise. I don’t see myself burning out at EY until reaching Senior Manager or Partner.
If you like tech, Accenture is probably better than the big 4.
But bonus pay is not great, which is fine for me since my wife is the moneymaker of the couple
To add...(been at Deloitte, EY and now KPMG):
Deloitte - best run, pay, scaled capabilities. Competitive which the partners will use. You need to perform but a very good culture overall.
PWC - large, disorganized, multiple competing sub firms, sharp elbows everywhere
EY - collegial, surprisingly strong in their areas of focus but not scaled.
KPMG - best culture, intimate, excellent growth in Management Consulting but not to scale of Accenture and Deloitte. RC and Deal Advisory are separate discussions. Deal Advisory (core DA) is very successful.
Can’t disagree more. Been at KPMG, EY and Deloitte. KPMG has the worst culture.
EY without a doubt. Especially coming from someone who has worked at both Accenture and Deloitte in the past.
EY 4, I agree. I recently jumped to Deloitte from EY, I really regret it.
Deloitte. Reasoning: Highest paying and best expense policy. Also I think the firm with the highest % of revenue from consulting
Yes GPS does Per Diem yes there are plenty that travel and use it.
It’s like asking what’s the best tasting brand of pickles, there’s a bit of subjective preference but at the end of the day a pickle is a pickle.
Having worked here and KPMG w/ friends at Deloitte, :
- EY = friendlier, w/ the closest approximation of wlb out of the big 4, but disorganized af
- Deloitte = higher pay and better run / more interesting projects, but also a more cutthroat environment w/ more corporate polish expected
- KPMG = still mostly an accounting firm, more regimented & stiff, projects are smaller

EY consulting is only 6 years old and blowing up with work. Growth rate is insane. Promotion opps are awesome. They are not the best yet but I would put them at Deloitte level in 10-15 years which is when newish-EY people would be going for partner. Exciting time for sure

SM1 - Deloitte, Accenture or EY. KPMG audits SAP which limits our remit and GTM. Audit comes off in 2020 so the question is which firm will pick it up or will the EU just maintain the status quo given the huge shift that would occur on both the audit and consulting side.
