Literally feel stuck without my CPA! I currently work as corporate accountant and have 3 years of public accounting experience specializing in governmental and not-for-profit accounting.

There is not a senior level accounting position for me to move into at my current company and with 4.5 years of experience I feel like I need to move to a senior level to gain some supervisory skills. It seems without my CPA, finding a senior accountant position making 80k/year is not realistic. What can I do?

Currently a senior accountant at a small company doing the monthly close financial process. Got two offers, one as a senior cost accountant and one as a senior financial analyst. Both similar comp and at great companies that have 10,000 or more employees. I’ve been wanting to get experience in both cost accounting and financial analysis.

Which role would be the smartest move based off the titles?

Is it unusual to transfer from FDD to a senior accountant role? Not sure if jumping from deal to deal is right for me..

Hey all- I feel like I have always seen conflicted suggestions on when to leave and what position to leave for. I am an S2 (manager promo would be next year) making 80k in MCOL in audit. I have an offer for a senior accountant position with equity grant at hire and 100k base, no annual bonus. I feel like the base increase is more than I thought I could get, but is that true? Do I need to look for a different position in industry, or do I need to stay until manager? Any thoughts much appreciated

I’ve been looking for a senior accountant (industry role) for a few months now, with not much luck. Most of the applications we receive are for candidates with much more experience than what is required. I was expecting to see a lot of Big4 or mid-tier seniors or associates that are looking to move to industry, especially since the news lately is that PA firms are experiencing attrition at those levels. We’re offering competitive pay and great benefits. What gives?

I have a company where I applied to a Senior Accountant role (3-4 weeks ago). I didn't hear back at all. But they just dropped a staff accountant role. I like the company and what they are doing.

Would it be uncouth for me to apply for the staff position too? Or is that a no-no? I feel like the cover letter would write itself - I like you enough to take a title cut. It helps they included the salary, and the staff salary is lateral to my current role.

We’re hiring a senior accountant at the tech start up I work at. Most of the people applying have financial services or real estate backgrounds… I’m a little worried about those skills translating to a tech company. I was never in FSI so I’m not sure if areas like rev rec, PPE, capitalized software, etc get much exposure. Thoughts on if this type of background could translate well?

I know there are a lot of boomerangs out there but I mean more specifically advisory or due diligence? Currently in Assurance and want to experience private industry as either a Senior Accountant or SEC reporting role but don’t want to shut myself from these other opportunities? Or should I persue advisory first and then private accounting if it doesn’t seem like a good fit?

Currently an A3 in assurance. I have two job offers: senior financial analyst (FP&A role) and senior accountant. Similar pay (a little over 40% raise), similar benefits. Will taking one of the offers limit me to just those types of roles going forward or would there still be an opportunity to do the other later on?

How are exit ops from RSM/BDO vs big 4 in audit? If I wanted to jump to senior accountant at a large private company/publicly traded, will I have a harder time coming out of a mid tier?

I have 2 offers:

One is in internal audit, $89k (middle of pay grade), 10-17% annual bonus, around 40 hrs a week and rarely any overtime.

The other is a senior accountant role, $86k (high end of pay grade), 10% annual bonus, 40 hrs a week except for period closings (45-50hrs).

What would you do?

Is there a salary difference between a Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A and a Senior Accountant? Assuming you have the same amount of accounting experience when applying for each position.

I would like to be a controller someday in financial services. Am a senior in big four audit with 4 years experience and CPA. I can either grind it out for two years to make manager, or I can leave for a senior accountant role in a fund and get familiar with the operations and closings and jump. I’m feeling burnt out, but I worry if I leave now I’ll be set back. Which is the better path? Any advice would be much appreciated, especially as I know there can be a lot of different right answers.

Hi! I’ve been thinking about two possible paths to making it to a controller one day in financial services.

Path one: stay until manager in big four audit and leave for a lateral position, only have audit exp
Path two: leave as a senior associate and spend two to three years as a senior accountant in private to get familiar with operations and the close process, then jump again for a promotion. Have a mix of audit and operational and accounting exp, but no title

Which path would be better?

Could anyone share what a reasonable salary would be for a Senior Accountant role in Los Angeles (industry)? I’m a third year senior with almost 5 years of experience (3 and half years in PA and 1 year in CMAAS). Any input is appreciated since I’m not familiar with the area.
