i just had an excellent review with my supervisors. we are aligned i am ready to be promoted. i will be moving from project manager to senior project manager.

the catch; my company has laid off 75% of its staff, and cut our salaries by 25%.

timing is unclear, since we work in the live entertainment space. what is fair to ask for?

i have 7 years work force experience, am the only one in my position, touch every creative deliverable the agency makes, and updated and streamlined 10+ processes.

My firm failed to give raises last year. Firm fired some attorneys and replaced them. Fast forward, firm is interviewing people (this isnt public knowledge). Firm has hired someone but hasnt made any formal announcement. Firm is still interviewing another candidate. Firm doesnt have enough work for staff and attorneys currently; people are fighting for work. Should I be worried for my job? Also, is it wrong to be pissed that firm is hiring people when we are already fighting for work...

Left my consulting job after 2.25 years in October 2019 for a venture backed startup. Laid off in March 2020. Joined a VC fund as an intern shorty after, but our fundraise (for our fund) got pushed back.

I was approached about helping grow a small executive recruitment firm focused on private technology companies. I’ll be chief of staff. The company takes $150k/placement + equity. The co expects to hit $1m in rev this year. They also invest in startups.

Should I do it? Is this pigeonholing?

Is the hiring slowdown over? I contacted a few firms to inquire about lateral opportunities in late June/early July and was asked to check back in the fall due to hiring freezes. Many firms that reduced salaries seem to be reversing that decision recently. But, is anyone slow and thinking layoffs may happen in the fall? Do you think staff who now are mostly sitting at home not working may be the first to go? Looks like we won’t all be back in the office until spring ..

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. I’m so beat. My agency leadership signed up to do the impossible for my client, put me on the hook to deliver it, and everyone who was there for the pitch-promises have run for the hills and are nowhere to be seen while I’m here holding the bag and struggling to deliver on the smoke and mirrors they sold. Key staff were laid off.

To summarize, the role entails working with business managers to help fill open roles, providing available staff, and forecasts, etc.; and working with practitioners as they near or land on the bench. I need a supportive group hence coming here and not the company bowl. In my 10 years working , I have never found a place more people friendly , employee focused than EY. But today a peer told a staff as an immigrant She will have to more careful than someone who belong here on her actions cause actions may have negative consequences like she not able to be with family whereas he doesn’t. So are the layoffs at Deloitte over ?

If you accept a salary reduction in these times in good faith, and then are laid off and your severance pay is based not on your original salary but this new one, then your company knew this in advance and may well have violated labor laws. Call a lawyer. They will not charge you if they do not recoup your money.
