About to interview for a high school English position. It's been 20 years since I taught that grade level; I've been in 3rd grade for 11 years. What advice do you have for me to prepare for this possible interview and change? I've been planning for this for years, but now that the opportunity has arrived, I would love some input before the interview

I found out today that I am being moved back into my old position. I had been a special Ed teacher for 20 years and finally had a job teaching math. I LOVE teaching math! But because the special Ed program has been such a mess, I am more needed in my old job. I have cried a lot this evening. Worse than that, more than likely, I will be transferred at the end of this semester. I am not being demoted because I qualify as a highly effective teacher. Any advice out there?

Hello everyone! I’m already considering what my next steps for next year . Is it bad that I want to leave . I’m at a charter right which is my second year here but this is also my first year in a dyslexia position. I feel that I’m not appreciated for what I do and people believe we have it easier than other educators. I got cheated out of my pay and even if Im certified I was told my pay wouldn’t increase next year. Thoughts on this please?

So I’m going to accept another position in the school district just because of the toxicity, lack of respect, no team player, or the teacher acting like the lead in the classroom. I will be starting next semester in January, but I do not want to tell my co workers though, I will only tell my principal just because I feel like it’s best to let her know but my co workers I don’t want here drama talk or whining that I’m leaving. Also when I do leave block them from my life so social media? Thanks!

Looking for virtual teaching position for middle/high school that pay a decent wage? Looking for classes In grades 5-12. Business Ed i.e. business math, finance, business law, intro to business; Family & consumer science I.e. early childhood ed, child development, advanced child development, child & adolescent development, fashion & textile, interior design; Into computer Ed or coding, CTE/Vocational related classes. 7 year experience teacher looking to transfer to remote position. Looking for 65-70k a year. The job does not have to be fully remote. I would be okay with presentations and meetings in person. My main thing would be flexibility.

I just got approved to start my hiring process as a substitute teacher in Hudson County. I just wonder how much is the pay per hour and if they will give me the option to work at the same school or they will make me rotate between schools as needed?

There are a lot of teachers here who are looking for an exit from their current job. Are there VC angels out there who would consider a start up business plan using the pool of disgruntled academic entrepreneurs a.k.a. teachers , and create a marketplace where existing homeschool pods can hire you for the year and you’d act like a contractor putting your work online with canvas and teaching remotely?

Anyone else have unfilled positions in their building that aren’t even being advertised? I.e - someone quits, so they shift an interventionist to that position and don’t even try to refill the interventionist position, etc…

Do you have class parents? If so, what are some things that your class parents do for you? What is their role/responsibility if any?

Ours organize our class parties and they also help on our polar express day.

Has anyone moved from classroom teaching to an online position? How was the transition? Do you feel less stressed/burned out?

Hello! We are only a few weeks into school and I’m completely burned out. I’m so tired of the constant disrespect. I feel like all I’m doing is managing behaviors instead of teaching. Has anyone gone from an in-person teaching position to an online teaching position? I’m debating moving in this direction. Our school has an online program and I might wait and see if a position opens there next year. If not, I’m going to look elsewhere. Any insight into online teaching would be appreciated.

I might be moving into a Tech Leader sort of role next year. I currently teach math and have probably an intermediate level of confidence with technology. Besides getting my Google level 1 and 2 certifications, what general ideas do you have to help me improve my abilities? I might be working with several types of devices, solving printer and projector issues, and possibly dealing with sound and audio equipment

Has anyone tried teaching online courses for Virtual Schools, Colleges, Universities? If so, where did you find the position openings? Websites, Companies, Schools?

If schools are PUBLIC why are they being privatized instead of federalized? Shouldn't ALL children be able to get the same quality education with quality teachers? The states are failing PUBLIC SCHOOLS and so called CHARTER SCHOOLS are often just Public Schools PRIVATELY OWNED! WE NEED TO LEARN TO TEACH A NEW WAY! Thanks for the soapbox, SHOULDN'T Trained Teachers get paid more instead of Districts saving money hiring SUBSTITUTES (Babysitters!!!!) that only have HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAS!

Hello Fellow Teachers, I start school after Labor Day and this year I am going to be working with the students who are EL and no longer teaching 7-8th grade Spanish. I am excited but anxious since I haven’t had an EL role in a few years. What advice can you give me? I want my students to feel supported and I want to do a good job.

I'm all for accelerated teacher internships... that's how I initially started. In the first Bilingual/ Spanish program- USC and LAUSD. Had to have a BA and ability to speak Spanish. They didn't accept HS graduates, veteran or not! Standards not lowered! I had to take entrance exams, state tests, and take out loans! District reneged on hiring us, newly licensed at higher salary, expanded the program and hired the new cheaper interns! Wipe-out credentialed teacher loans and increase our pay!

This is my 5th year teaching (1st grade) and there is a spot opening up next year for the art teacher. Several staff members have suggested I should switch & I'm very open to it.
I'm about to have my 1st baby & I know how being a homeroom teacher consumes me more than I'd like to admit. I know it will be a different beast, but I'm also conflicted knowing I'm not burnt out and could give more in the 1st grade position I have and the grade I feel I do my best in.
Any advice?

After seeing some responses about expected working hours, I am curious about which states do not allow teachers’ unions. Why is that the case? Is there any protection for your position? Who negotiates your contract? In some states is it by district? I admit to being surprised by this as I have never taught outside of Massachusetts.

Why am I not getting hired? I’ve applied to at least 19 open positions in the OC/South OC area in California over the course of 4 months. I’m currently leaving my position due to low enrollment. I’ve had 3 interviews so far, and the last one I know and made sure to answer and clarify all that was asked of me, yet I’m still coming up short. My resume is updated and formalized, my qualifications are where they need to be, and I also stated that I’m more than able and willing to learn new things.

AP Coordinators- I am a secretary and we had over 1,500 exams this past May. I have attended many AP training sessions and I am always the only coordinator that is a secretary. How is this position handled in your district?

I apply for a job. Same job that currently have but at a different school on my district. On the surface it appears to be a simple transfer. I’m encouraged to apply. I feel the interview goes well. But I don’t get the transfer. And I’m told that competition was steep. Everyone at the school I want to transfer to are surprised. I get the impression that many people applied. In fact I’d be surprised if there was a lot of people applying for this position. I am so frustrated.

If you got a chance to ask questions to a potential new principal during the hiring process what would you ask?!

I'm thinking about switching districts and grade levels after over a decade. I'm feeling stale and wonder if a move will be good. The new position would require summer trainings for the next few years to teach high school AP classes, but hopefully be more rewarding. I'm still anxious. New school, no professional status... What would you do?
