Hello! For employment check that require to put your current supervisor, do they contact them directly or do they just check in your background check where you’re employed? I’m trying to avoid having my supervisor find out until the background check clears.

I would love some advice or a different perspective. I’m an attorney with less than one year of experience. I’m about to lose my job soon because the only two senior attorneys in my department are fed up of the firm we work for and leaving soon. After they leave, I don’t think my firm will keep me. They hired me to work specifically for this department. I’m trying to look for jobs but I’m not finding any in my specific area of law. Should I look into a new area of practice? I’m just scared.

Recently, i was "promoted" or, I should say, my title was changed to the next ring up the ladder. As a part of this, I went from reporting to Senior Management, to Junior Management. The Jr. Manager has good intentions, but, is not helpful. I've worked at the company longer, have accomplished more across multiple lines of business and have a much stronger internal network. Am I overreacting thinking this is a major slight that will ultimately slow down my growth within the company?
